Manitowoc is a growing community Nestled along Lake Michigan. About 30 minutes south of Green Bay and 1 hour north of Milwaukee. If offers a small shopping district, a historic downtown, and stunning views. that cater to both adventure seekers and those in search of relaxation.

Manitowoc is a great destination for a day trip or a weekend getaway. Discover what makes this city a must-visit destination with my family's top 15 must see stops.


  1. Maritime Museum

    The Wisconsin Maritime Museum, located right by the waterfront, provides an insightful look into the area’s maritime heritage. Here, you can explore real submarines and an array of maritime artifacts. Interactive exhibits highlight the city's significance during historical naval operations, with many artifacts dating back to the World Wars.

  2. Rahr-West Art Museum

    The Rahr-West Art Museum is a free public museum where you'll find impressive works from local and famous artists. Housed in a historic mansion, the museum provides art classes and workshops for visitors. My kids love the mansion and playroom in the basement.

  3. Rahr-West Gardens

    The Rahr-West Gardens is a beautiful 6 acre public property seated on Lake Michigan, off the Mariners Trial. It offers a well manicured garden, fountains, Japanese fish pod (kid favorite), and a moment of peace.

  4. Strand Adventure

    The Strand Adventure is a indoor play complex in downtown Manitowoc that offers a ninja gym, indoor rock climbing walls, laser tag, and much more. My kids love the climbing walls and the ninja gym.

  5. Walk to the Lighthouse

    Built in 1895. Rebuilt in 1918. Automated in 1971. Restored in 2012. The lighthouse itself is not open to tour. However, the public can take the 0.5 mile scenic walk out to see it up and close. The whole adventure is beautiful and tranquil.

    If your traveling with your dog this is a your stop; as their is also a dog park out by the lighthouse too.

  6. Mariners Trail

    One of the city's highlights is the Mariners Trail, a beautiful path that stretches 2.5 miles along the lakefront. This paved trail is not only ideal for an afternoon stroll but also for a brisk bike ride that rewards you with stunning views of the water and surrounding landscapes.

  7. Lincoln Park Zoo

    Lincoln Park Zoo is an excellent destination for a family day trip. This free zoo offers a variety of animals along with naturalistic habitats, ensuring an enjoyable and educational outing for children. Facilities like playgrounds and picnic areas make it a great spot for family gatherings.

  8. Farmer's Market

    The local farmers' markets nestled right downtown from May to October and indoor the other part of year provide a great opportunity to sample seasonal produce and artisanal goods. It’s a chance to connect with local farmers and understand the area’s agricultural roots.

  9. Cedar Crest Ice Cream Parlor

    Cedar Crest Ice Cream has been scooping ice cream since 1976 for the community. It is not uncommon for a line to form outside the small parlor as the ice cream flavor is to die for and variety is expansive. Some of my family favorites are muddy boots, black cherry, and pirates bounty.

  10. Beernstens Confectionery

    This is an old-fashioned candy shop crafting homemade confections and ice cream. My family’s favorite is the turtle sundae and their homemade melt away chocolates.


  11. Ryan's on York

    Ryan’s is a small gastropub Crafting unque flavor profiles. There menu is like no other eatery in town. Make sure to go early as they a usually very busy on the weekends for dinner.

  12. Luigis Italian Restaurant

    Luigis is a family friendly restaurant on the south end of Manitowoc featuring authentic Italian cuisine. They have a full bar serving a wide variety of mocktails to cocktails. No matter what you order you will be satisfied. My family’s loves their pizza and salmon entree.

  13. Wharf

    The Wharf Manitowoc is a waterfront bar who showcases live music most weekends. If you are looking for local music and somewhere to grab a drink this is your go to stop!

  14. PetSkull Brewery

    PetSkull is housed in a historic brick building right next to the Manitowoc River that runs through downtown. It is a craft brewery and taproom with over 20 beers and cocktails-on-tap. They also host live entertainment weekly.

  15. In on Maritime Bay

    If you want to stay close to downtown, look no further. This hotel is recently updated, sits on Lake Michigan and is walking distance to many of the above stops.

  16. Graced Bouquet

    Graced offers a wide range of women’s clothing, a small kids section and home decor items. This is my family’s go to bouquet for 1 of a kind items.
